WEG smoke exhaust motors protect the immersed tube tunnel of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
WEG products were once again selected and applied to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project in China, one of the largest engineering construction projects in the world. The bridge was officially opened to traffic on October 24, 2018.
WEG Group's wholly-owned subsidiary in China, Wangao (Nantong) Motor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., participated in the supply of some low-voltage and high-voltage specially designed motors in the project, which will work below sea level and be used in smoke exhaust ventilation systems.
The project supply consists of 207 smoke exhaust motors,
The output power covers 15kW to 500kW,
and the voltage ranges from 380V to 6kV.
WEG low-voltage motors are mainly used for tunnel fans (driving lanes and emergency passage ventilation) in the Zhuhai tunnel section, distributed throughout the tunnel.
WEG high-voltage motors are mainly used for tunnel main body ventilation located on the two artificial islands in the east and west.
Smoke extraction motors are designed to ensure air circulation in closed environments. In emergency situations, they can withstand operation at high temperatures of 200ºC, 300ºC or 400ºC for up to 2 hours and ensure rapid extraction of smoke and heating, in addition to delaying the spread of fire, allowing free access to emergency exits.
WEG Nantong team worked closely with Shanghai Kruger Ventilation Co., Ltd. to produce a complete ventilation system for the tunnel. China Railway Construction Electric Power Bureau Group provided engineering support for the project. About the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Immersed Tube Tunnel
The construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge began in December 2009 and was completed in May 2018 with a design service life of 120 years. It is the longest immersed tube tunnel in the world and the longest cross-bridge tunnel in the world. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Link (HZM Link) is a three-lane high-speed link that crosses the Pearl River Delta, spanning Hong Kong with Zhuhai (mainland China) and the west side of Macao. The HZM Link tunnel is located under two main navigation channels between two artificial islands. There is a connecting low bridge between the two artificial islands. It is the longest undersea tunnel in the world, with a total length of 6.7 kilometers. It is also the largest immersed tube tunnel, with standard sections of immersed tube tunnels, each section is 180 meters long and has a displacement of more than 75,000 tons. It is also the deepest tunnel, with the deepest point of the tunnel located 48 meters below the water level.
